Show Jumping: Marcel Ewen National Champion

Jumping
Jumping NC

A faultless competition at Bouferterhaff

Overview of the championship results

He’s back: after years that were difficult judging by the results, show jumper Marcel Ewen on Impatient Marblesien (title picture) became the national show jumping champion over the weekend, in the “Senior” category — the Elite. The pair finished this class without faults, which ultimately made the difference against last year’s winner Diane Kettmann. In the first of the three results that counted for the championship — a speed class S* over 1.40 meters — Kettmann lost the crucial 1.10 points with First Fleut. Christian Weier and Dante took bronze. They, too, had to accept 3.02 penalty points from the Thursday competition. In the two subsequent rounds the trio that eventually made the podium remained faultless.

In the Amateur category the championship was decided more clearly: Lara Klinkert and Curtis had no knockdowns or time faults and thus finished 5.26 points ahead of the second-placed pair Stéphanie Hein and Lucky. Paul Hendel was third in this category with Quiana after one knockdown. It was close again among the juniors, where Linda Rock and Casey won after a knockdown in the jump-off by Julie Thull and Kansai du Gibet.

// Update 10.9.2026, 4:45 PM: in the initial version of the parageaph above we wrote that Linda Rock won “only” because of Julie Thull’s knockdown. This was meant to descripe how close the decision was. The author of this article was asked to modify this as there was a chance of misunderstanding. In no case we did want to devalue Linda Rock’s performance and result //

Grace Baum and Vol de Nuit du Gibet completed the podium with sixteen penalty points. In the Débutants class Emma Thiel and Carlotto won with the highest style score (8.1) and no faults. Mara Bisenius was second on Maverick with 1.40 faults, and Katrin Baum with Cyrielle du Toultia finished third in another tight contest with 1.80 points.

Among the young horses, several animals stood out from the breeding—identifiable by the suffix “du Gibet”—or were from the ownership of Dr. Charles Bettendorf. In the seven- and eight-year-old classes, for example, Krick Krack du Gibet (SCSL), shown by Franco Martinez, won after a faultless jump-off. Serenade des Fusains (BWP), bred by Dr. Edmond Meyers and ridden by Yola Schartz, finished second in that class, ahead of Shalimar du Gibet (SCSL) with Franco Martinez. Kalagann Bruce (SF) and Amour Amour du Gibet (SCSL), both ridden by Martinez in the six-year-old class, remained clear and shared first place. Peppe van Overis (Z), ridden by Kim Grangenette, finished third.

Emeraude KS (SCSL) from the K-Stables in Huldange won the five-year-old show-jumping class with Franco Martinez by the narrowest of margins; only seventeen hundredths of a second behind came Chamiroquai des Ovins (SCSL), ridden by Shoorendran Nageswaran and bred by Stephanie Hein. Félicie (OS) and Martinez placed third with 43.17 seconds. In the four-year-old class the Holsteiner Celestia won, with Maéva Barruel in the saddle. Second was Zig Zag du Gibet (SCSL) presented by Franco Martinez and third was Canada du Gibet (SCSL), ridden by Léonard Aldilli.
