The Icelandic horse is more than a breed , it is a symbol of endurance, character, and harmony between horse and rider. Known for its unique gaits, strong personality, and deep cultural heritage, the Icelandic horse has found a dedicated and passionate community here in Luxembourg.
Icelandic horse sport competitions differ from “regular” equestrian tournaments, as they particularly showcase the four or five gaits of the Icelandic horse on an oval track or a pace track. There are also special gait tests exclusively for the tölt or flying pace, as well as pace races. The Hestadagar competitions were developed specifically for recreational riders.
As the national governing body for equestrian sport, the FLSE is proud to support and promote the Icelandic horse as an integral part of our diverse equestrian landscape. Luxembourg is home to two active clubs dedicated to this remarkable breed: Verband vun den Islandpäerd Lëtzebuerg and Islandpäerd Vereenegung Lëtzebuerg, both of which play a key role in preserving and developing Icelandic horse sport and culture in the country
